Getting your flu vaccine in Castleisland

A quick guide to the seasonal flu vaccine and how to get yours locally.

Each year the seasonal flu vaccine protects against the strains of flu most likely to circulate that winter. Because the virus changes year to year, a new vaccine is needed each season, ideally from September onwards.

Who should get it?

The flu vaccine is recommended especially if you:

  • Are 65 years of age or over
  • Are pregnant
  • Have a long-term health condition
  • Work in healthcare or are a carer
  • Live in a nursing home or long-term care facility

The vaccine is free if you are in an at-risk group. Otherwise a consultation fee may apply unless you have a medical card or GP visit card.

Good to know

The flu vaccine does not contain any live virus, so it cannot give you the flu. It helps your immune system build protection and starts to work within about two weeks.

How to arrange yours

People aged 18 and over can get the vaccine from our trained pharmacist, in a private setting, no GP appointment needed. Call in or phone us to arrange a time that suits you.
